The 2008 Haut‑Bailly is a textbook example of classic Graves: aromas of lead pencil shavings, charcoal, damp earth, black cherry, and black currant dominate the bouquet.  The palate is medium-bodied with superb focus: the fruit is concentrated yet not overblown, edged by smoky, mineral drive and subtle oak spices.  Tannins remain firm but refined, and the finish is long, disciplined, and persistent—a wine both poised now and built for further aging.
