The 2009 Château Pichon Baron opens with a deep garnet hue and intense aromas of blackberry, cassis, dark plum, cedar, and tobacco, with an emerging layer of leather and savory earth. On the palate it is full‑bodied yet balanced, driven by firm, fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity, and a core of black fruit fused with graphite and spice. The wine has the richness and structure to age further, offering a long, powerful finish with lingering fruit and mineral accents.
Château Pichon‑Longueville Baron (simply “Pichon Baron”) is one of the legendary estates of Pauillac and was classified as a Deuxième Cru (Second Growth) in the 1855 Bordeaux classification. The estate comprises about 73 hectares planted roughly to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, with small portions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. In the 20th and 21st centuries, under AXA Millésimes and management by Christian Seely, the property has embraced ambitious viticultural improvements, precision sorting, and cellar upgrades—balancing tradition with modern finesse. Known for its gravely soils, strong structure, and Pauillac character, Pichon Baron’s wines are respected for their longevity and power tempered by aristocratic refinement.
