The 2019 Colonnello opens with floral notes of rose and violet, red cherry, blood orange, and delicate herbal spice. According to tasting notes, it also reveals fennel, dill, graphite, and dried flowers contributing to its complexity . On the palate it is medium‑to‑full, with refined, silky tannins, expressive fruit, and a lingering yet vibrant finish that emphasizes brightness and precision over overt extraction .
Poderi Aldo Conterno is one of the most respected Barolo houses in Monforte d’Alba, founded by Aldo Conterno and now run by his three sons. The estate has three flagship single‑vineyard Barolos — Romirasco, Cicala, and Colonnello — each expressing a distinct terroir and microclimate within the Bussia cru. Colonnello is planted on steeper slopes with thinner soils and offers finesse, aromatic lift, and elegance rather than brute power. Conterno’s approach is classically disciplined: long aging in large Slavonian oak casks with minimal intervention, allowing structure, freshness, and nebbiolo purity to evolve over time.
