The 2018 vintage was cooler and more balanced than the preceding year, yielding wines of precision, aromatic purity, and vibrant freshness. Cerretta 2018 reveals delicate yet complex aromas of wild raspberry, red cherry, violet, and rose petals, complemented by subtle notes of sweet spice, anise, and crushed stone. The palate is taut and elegant, with finely etched tannins supporting flavors of pomegranate, cranberry, and blood orange, all carried by a refreshing acidity and saline minerality. This magnum (1.5L) format ensures even slower maturation, making it ideal for extended cellaring over 20–30 years, where its perfume and finesse will deepen with time.
Founded in 1908 in Monforte d’Alba, Giacomo Conterno is celebrated worldwide as one of the greatest ambassadors of traditional Barolo. Under the stewardship of Roberto Conterno, the estate continues its uncompromising commitment to excellence—practicing low-yield viticulture, meticulous grape selection, long macerations, and extended aging in large Slavonian oak botti. The Cerretta vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba, acquired in 2008, features calcareous clay and limestone soils that give the wine its hallmark floral elegance and refined mineral backbone. Known for its lifted aromatics and poise, Cerretta is often the most graceful of Conterno’s single-vineyard Barolos, while still carrying the structure for decades of aging.
