The 2019 Red Rock Terrace from Diamond Creek is rich and powerful yet refined, showing characteristic flavors of dark cherry, cassis, and plum, lifted by notes of espresso bean, cedar, and spicy dried herbs. The vineyard’s steep north‑facing terraces, with red rocky soils high in iron, give the wine taut mineral tension and a cooler edge despite its warmth. Tannins are firm and velvety, acidity balanced and structure excellent for extended aging; expect savory graphite, tapenade, and menthol nuances to emerge with time. Diamond Creek is one of Napa Valley’s most venerated estates, founded in the late 1960s by Al and Boots Brounstein on the steep, iron‑rich slopes of Diamond Mountain. They were among the earliest producers in California to bottle single‑vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons, with each vineyard plot (Red Rock Terrace, Volcanic Hill, Gravelly Meadow, Lake) reflecting distinct soil, exposure, and microclimate. Since its acquisition by Maison Louis Roederer in 2020, the estate has reaffirmed its commitment to low yields, organic farming, refined extraction, and preserving the classic elegance that made them famous.
