Christopher Deas, Italian Wine Merchants: "No doubt about it, this is a crowd-pleasing expression that seduces with one pull of the cork. It is simply another exciting expression from the dynamic duo. The Meo touch and style is here, generous fruit, aided by the ripe vintage, smooth tannins, silky texture, all with quiet and unobtrusive underlying structure. The wine showcases another side of Pinot from here, there is some darker fruit to marry with the reds, showcasing nuances of black cherry, wild berries, plum, dried herbs, lack tea and lavender. With air the wine really fills out in the glass and gains in texture but remaining light on its feet. We have tasted this wine on several occasions since its release. Our first instinct was to pair it with goat cheese, but perhaps the surprise pairing was Mussels at Harvey Cedars Fish Bar, the wine picked up on the herbs, parmesan, and butter. What do REM and Meo-Camuzet have in common you might ask? Well, for one, Jay Boberg. The co-founder of I.R.S. Records (R.E.M., The Go-Gos, Fine Young Cannibals) turned passionate wine enthusiast convinced long-time friend Jean-Nicolas Meo, of the iconic domaine Meo-Camuzet in Burgundy, to sign on with him in the Willamette Valley to take on the noble varietal on American soil.
