The 2008 vintage presents with striking clarity and depth: a crystalline golden hue gives way to a finely detailed nose of orchard fruit (pear, yellow apple), lemon zest, white truffle, praline and subtle iodine‑tinged minerality. On the palate it is rich yet electrified by razor‑sharp acidity and a resonant structure; layers of brioche, toasted almond and chalky extract interweave under a poised mousse. Mid‑palate depth is accentuated by graphite minerality, gentle spice and a finish that expands into a long, pure echo of citrus‑oil, saline stone and faint licorice. In the 1.5 L format, the wine’s tension and elegance are amplified—this is a champagne built not for immediacy, but for evolution and occasion.
Hailing from the Grand Cru village of Ambonnay in the Montagne de Reims, Egly‑Ouriet is a revered grower‑champagne house led by the Egly family across four generations. Their vineyards—planted predominantly to Pinot Noir with a portion of Chardonnay—sit on rich chalk and marl soils and are farmed with a devotion to low yields, old vines and handcrafted quality. Egly‑Ouriet is known for barrel fermentation, long lees ageing (often far longer than house norms), minimal dosage and an “essence of place” philosophy that positions them as one of Champagne’s pre‑eminent artisanal houses.
