The 2017 Eisele Cabernet opens with a deep garnet‑purple robe and aromas of blackberry, black currant, dark plum compote, and Morello cherry, along with violet, cedar plank, graphite, and raw chocolate. The palate is medium‑to‑full, with polished yet firm tannins, excellent freshness, and a long, perfumed finish. Underneath the power there is finesse—notes of spice, pencil shavings, underbrush, and tobacco leaf unwind slowly. Critics agree: 94‑pts James Suckling praised its “velvety tannins … juicy finish,” while Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate (≈97 pts) highlights its poised structure, ripe fruit, and opulent complexity.
Eisele Vineyard (formerly Araujo Estate) is one of Napa’s benchmark properties, located just east of Calistoga at the base of the Palisades range. The soils are volcanic and alluvial, drained, mineral-rich and demanding—forcing vines to produce deeply concentrated fruit. The estate has long embraced organic and biodynamic farming, exacting harvest selection, gentle extraction and élevage in fine French oak. Ownership under Groupe Artémis has further cemented its status among the most revered producers in California, with each vintage seeking to balance power and precision, terroir clarity and longevity.
