The Brunello di Montalcino 1997 is a superb example of both Fuligni’s craftsmanship and the strength of this outstanding vintage. In the glass, it reveals a deep garnet hue, with a bouquet of dried cherry, leather, forest floor, and sweet spices, underpinned by hints of tobacco and balsamic notes. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet refined, with mature tannins that have softened gracefully over time. The finish is long and harmonious, marked by lingering flavors of dried fruit, cedar, and earthy minerality. This is a Brunello that demonstrates the aging potential of Fuligni’s wines—complex, evolved, and still vibrant more than two decades later.
The Fuligni estate is one of the historic benchmarks of Montalcino, tracing its winemaking tradition back to the early 20th century. Located on the eastern slopes of the Montalcino hill, Fuligni farms roughly 10 hectares of vineyards, with a strong focus on Sangiovese Grosso. Their philosophy emphasizes meticulous vineyard care, careful selection of fruit, and long, traditional aging in large Slavonian oak casks. Known for combining elegance with longevity, Fuligni has built a reputation for producing Brunellos that stand among the finest in the region, balancing classic structure with aromatic finesse.
