This 100% Nebbiolo from the Gianmate vineyard shows striking aromas of sour cherry, wild violets, and orange peel, offset by subtle bark and earthy spice. The palate is structured and textured, with firm acidity and fine, persistent tannins, carrying red fruit and spice into a long, elegant finish. Already appealing now, it promises greater depth and nuance over the next decade-plus.
Giacosa Fratelli is a historic, family-owned winery based in Neive, Piedmont, founded in 1895. Over five generations, the Giacosa family has built a reputation for Nebbiolo wines that marry power with elegance, and terroir clarity with finesse. They farm many prestigious parcels—among them the Basarin cru in Barbaresco, where Vigna Gianmate is a standout single vineyard. Their vines are organically managed, with full respect for soil, slope, and aspect. The winery often uses native yeasts, long macerations, and aging in barriques in exceptional parcels (unusual for some of their Barbaresco wines) when fruit strength allows. The style is deeply rooted in tradition, but with precise craftsmanship and consistency that allows these wines to age gracefully and show their complexity over time.
