 This is a powerhouse Syrah: dense blackberry, black cherry, smoke, licorice, espresso, and crushed stone notes emerge from the glass.  On the palate it is bold and concentrated, with firm, ripe tannins and a structure built for the long haul — the finish is expansive, layered, and persistent.  

Guigal, based in Ampuis in the Northern Rhône, is one of the region’s premier negociants and domain operators, renowned for its mastery of Syrah and Viognier across appellations from Côte-Rôtie to Hermitage. The Ex Voto range (red and white) represents Guigal’s “treasure cuvées” — made only in exceptional vintages from the top parcels of Hermitage.  The red Ex Voto is drawn from vines in Bessards, Greffieux, Murands, and Hermite, all steep, granitic soils planted to old Syrah vines.  The white Ex Voto is mainly from the Murets parcel (≈ 90 %) and Hermite (≈ 10 %), planted to Marsanne (≈ 90 %) and Roussanne (≈ 10 %).  In both cases, Guigal uses 100% new French oak (30–42 months depending on vintage) and full malolactic fermentation.  Ex Voto is only produced when Guigal feels the vintage exceeds even their high Hermitage standards, making each release rare and highly prized.
