The Montevetrano 1999 is a compelling vintage that showcases the early brilliance of the estate. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Aglianico, it opens with aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry, and wild herbs, layered with graphite, cedar, and leather. With over two decades of maturity, the wine reveals deep tertiary complexity—dried violets, balsamic notes, tobacco, and subtle earthy tones—while still holding on to a core of dark fruit. On the palate, it is structured yet harmonious, with polished tannins and vibrant acidity supporting a long, savory finish. This vintage demonstrates the enduring balance and longevity that have made Montevetrano a collector’s treasure.
Silvia Imparato’s Montevetrano estate, founded in the late 1980s in the hills near Salerno, stands as one of the most visionary projects in southern Italy. Initially a photographer, Imparato joined forces with renowned oenologist Riccardo Cotarella to craft a wine that would challenge the perception of Campania on the world stage. Combining international grapes with native traditions, Montevetrano became a symbol of refinement and ambition. The estate’s philosophy emphasizes respect for the land, low yields, and meticulous cellar work, resulting in wines that are both powerful and elegant, capable of decades of evolution.
