The 2023 Chablis Bougros Grand Cru shows a rich bouquet of pear skin, yellow apple, and lemon blossom, with subtle hints of white pepper, chalk, and sea spray. On the palate it is generous yet focused—full‑bodied for Chablis, with vibrant acidity and pronounced minerality giving structure and lift. The texture is slightly more weighty than other Grand Crus, but balanced by classic Bougros tension and salinity. Flavors of lemon curd, baked apple, and citrus peel are framed by a stony core and finish long with lingering minerality and floral echoes. A wine built for aging, but already alluring.
Joseph Drouhin, established in 1880, is one of Burgundy’s most respected houses, with vineyards across Chablis, the Côte de Nuits, and Côte de Beaune. Bougros is one of the Grand Cru climats in Chablis—steep slopes with Kimmeridgian limestone soils that impart minerality, tension, and clarity. Drouhin uses organic and biodynamic practices in many of its plots, with hand harvesting, gentle pressing, and restrained oak aging (rarely new) to preserve purity and avoid masking terroir. Their winemaking philosophy balances precision with elegance, seeking wines that reflect soil, vintage, and climate rather than winemaking flair.
