The 2023 Chablis Vaudésir delivers a radiant aromatic profile: lemon and yellow orchard fruit mingle with floral notes and a trace of spice like coriander. On the palate it is ample and full‑bodied, yet vibrant with a fresh acidity and minerally salinity that speak clearly of its Kimmeridgian roots. There’s generosity in fruit, but it never feels heavy—the structure is clean and crystalline. The finish lingers, complex and elegant, with notes of saline and stone. Drinking window is likely strong from ~2024–2025, with peak expression expected over the next decade or more.
Maison Joseph Drouhin has been a pillar of Burgundy since 1880, with holdings and expertise in Chablis, the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, and beyond. The “Vaudésir” Grand Cru lies among the seven legendary climats of Chablis, planted on steep slopes of Kimmeridgian limestone—soils rich in marine fossils that give Chablis its signature minerality. Under the Drouhin‑Vaudon label, Joseph Drouhin farms organically (and in many plots biodynamically), harvests by hand, and insists on low yields. Vinification is restrained: slow pressing, barrel aging in older oak, minimal new oak influence. The aim is purity, terroir expression, and the ability to age gracefully without sacrificing elegance.
