The 2023 Corton‑Charlemagne reveals intense golden hues and aromas of yellow orchard fruit (pear, golden apple), delicate flowers, fresh almond, citrus zest and honey, intertwined with exotic wood and gentle spice. On the palate it is ample and full-bodied yet remains lifted by crisp acidity and pronounced minerality. There’s generosity and freshness hand‑in‑hand, with complex aftertastes lingering long after the sip. Expect this wine to age well—optimum drinking from approximately 8 to 15 years, with potential to develop further over 20 years+.
Maison Joseph Drouhin, founded in 1880, is one of Burgundy’s great houses—family‑owned, deeply rooted in the Côte de Beaune and committed to expressing terroir. Corton‑Charlemagne is their flagship Grand Cru white vineyard on steep, dominant slopes in Aloxe‑Corton (also parts of Ladoix‑Serrigny and Pernand‑Vergelesses), planted on brown limestone with small stones. Drouhin’s methods are meticulous: hand harvest, pneumatic pressing, careful selection of juice, slow fermentation, and oak ageing with about 30% new barrels, all in service of preserving the vineyard’s mineral and floral character. Their overarching philosophy: generosity tempered by freshness and finesse.
