The 2023 Nuits‑Saint‑Georges opens with deep cherry, blackberry, and subtle licorice, showing hints of cedar and game as it develops. On the palate it is robust yet elegant, with fine tannins, smooth texture, and a good balance of structure and softness. There’s a lingering finish with fruit syrup, mild spices, and a whisper of earth and mineral. It is approachable now with decanting, but will give its best over 8‑13 years, with ageing potential out to 15 years or more.
Maison Joseph Drouhin has been a benchmark in Burgundy since 1880, famous for owning terroirs across Chablis, Côte de Nuits, and Côte de Beaune. Their Nuits‑Saint‑Georges is sourced from both supply partners and own vineyards, farmed with careful attention: hand‑harvest, rigorous sorting, total destemming, and fermentations in open vats using indigenous yeasts. Around 20–25% new French oak is used in the barrel ageing, which lasts 14‑16 months. Drouhin strongly emphasizes letting site and vintage show through rather than dominance of oak or heavy manipulation.
