The 2023 Folatieres shows elegant aromas of white peach, green apple, lemon zest, and fresh flowers, with a subtle chalky minerality and wet stone nuance. On the palate it is refined and poised: vibrant acidity gives lift, while a silky texture and discreet oak provide richness without weight. Mid‑palate reveals citrus pith, white flower, and a touch of honey, balanced by a mineral core and finishing long, clean, and slightly saline. Lovely now for its freshness, but with structure to evolve beautifully over the next 5‑10 years.
Maison Joseph Drouhin, founded in 1880, is among Burgundy’s most celebrated domaines, with vineyard holdings across Puligny‑Montrachet, Chassagne, Chablis, and beyond. “Folatieres” lies on steep slopes high above the village, planted in limestone and marl soils that offer drainage, minerality, and breeze. Drouhin’s approach here is classic and restrained: low yields, hand‑harvested grapes, gentle pressing, and aging in mostly neutral or older oak to avoid overt oak flavor. The winemaking emphasizes purity and clarity—letting the soil and vintage speak through rather than heavy manipulation.
