The 2020 Casanovina Montosoli opens with a captivating bouquet of crushed blackberries, mentholated herbs, camphor, and crushed rock, layered with violet and wild strawberry hints.  On the palate it is taut and structured: firm tannins support vivid red and dark fruit, minerality, and vibrant acidity, culminating in a long finish of citrus peel, licorice, and slate.  This is a Brunello of both power and finesse—approachable with careful decanting, yet built for long aging.

Le Ragnaie is one of Montalcino’s rising stars, founded in 2002 by Riccardo Campinoti and his wife Jennifer, with a clear vision: high‑altitude vineyards, organic farming, and wines of terroir clarity. The estate now covers ~15–16 hectares, much of it planted at elevations nearing the upper limits of the Brunello zone, giving their wines lifted tension alongside depth. Working without chemical fertilizers, Le Ragnaie employs long, thoughtful macerations and aging exclusively in large Slavonian oak casks to retain freshness and purity. The philosophy is uncompromising: minimal intervention in the cellar, letting the site and season dictate the wine’s voice. Their acquisitions of parcels like Montosoli (a cru of high prestige) reflect their ambition to compete among the very top of Brunello terroirs.
