The 2019 Volnay 1er Cru “Les Fremiets” opens with a dark ruby core and animated aromas of wild blackberry, cassis, plum skin and a touch of bramble, layered with orange rind, raw cocoa, and delicate spice. On the palate it shows medium‐to‐full body, finely structured with brisk acidity and a concentrated core of red and black fruits balanced by rising mineral drive and subtle chalky tension. The mid‑palate develops hints of licorice, dried herb and crushed stone, giving the finish energy and focus. Tannins are present yet polished, granting an impression of elegance and aging potential rather than overt power. The long finish fades with cherry pit, incense and a saline minerality, signalling a wine built not only for the near term but for graceful maturation. Drink now with decanting or cellar for 10‑20 years for full expression.
Domaine Marquis d’Angerville is one of Volnay’s most treasured estates, rooted in the d’Angerville family’s lineage and vineyards high on Volnay’s southeast slopes. Their philosophy is one of near‑minimal intervention—focused on ultra‑low yields, precise vineyard work, gentle fermentations and ageing in 20‑25% new oak—so as to let the terroir speak. The Fremiets climat, sitting adjacent to Pommard, brings together the elegance of Volnay’s Burgundian tradition with the strength and structure of its neighbour, creating wines of sublime nuance. With organic and biodynamic farming practices in place, the estate continues to produce red Burgundy expressions of rare delicacy and depth.
