The Taurasi Radici 2012 reflects the elegance and precision of the vintage, showcasing Aglianico’s intensity without sacrificing balance. Aromatically, it offers ripe black cherry, plum, and dark berries, accented by leather, licorice, dried herbs, and a smoky volcanic minerality. On the palate, the wine is powerful yet poised, with firm tannins, fresh acidity, and a layered complexity of fruit, spice, and earthy depth. Notes of cocoa, balsamic, and tobacco enrich the finish, which is long and persistent. While approachable now, this 2012 still has the structure to evolve for 15–20 years, rewarding patience with greater nuance and harmony.
Mastroberardino is the historic estate that placed Campania firmly on the map of fine wine. Founded in the 18th century and based in Atripalda, it has long been the custodian of Southern Italy’s noble grapes, most notably Aglianico. Antonio Mastroberardino is credited with safeguarding these varieties during the post-war years, ensuring their survival and elevating Taurasi to international recognition. Today, under the leadership of Piero Mastroberardino, the family continues its legacy with a philosophy rooted in tradition, terroir, and innovation. The Radici line, first introduced in 1986, is the winery’s flagship expression of Taurasi and remains the benchmark for the appellation—structured, profound, and capable of extraordinary aging.
