The 2019 Vigna Valferana opens with an intense garnet core and a purplish rim, offering layered aromatics of wild Morello cherry, pomegranate seed, violet, graphite and wet granite minerality. On the palate it is full‑bodied yet finely etched, with firm but polished tannins and bright acidity providing a vivid spine for a dense yet energetic fruit core of black cherry, dark plum and sour berry. Mid‑palate complexity builds with cedar chest, licorice root, crushed slate and a hint of tobacco leaf, all underscored by a saline‑iron minerality that gives the wine precision and drive. The finish is long and persistent—echoes of cherry pit, dry herbs, forest floor and flint linger into a refined, mineral‑tinged close. The 3 L format amplifies the wine’s depth and ageing potential: while already compelling with decanting, this bottling is clearly built for the long haul and can age gracefully for 15 – 20 years or more in a well‑conditioned cellar.

Nervi‑Conterno is a revitalized historic estate in Gattinara, driven by Roberto Conterno of Piemonte’s legendary Conterno family. The vineyards are located on high‑altitude volcanic slopes of porphyry in the Alto Piemonte region, farmed with ultra‑low yields and traditional techniques aimed at precision and terroir expression. Winemaking combines long macerations, large oak botti ageing and minimal intervention—crafting Nebbiolo that marries structure, minerality and elegance. Their single‑vineyard cuvées, such as Vigna Valferana, are regarded as some of the finest manifestations of Gattinara’s potential.
