The Vigna Valferana cru lies on a unique terroir of volcanic porphyry and iron-rich gravel, producing Nebbiolo with an intense mineral backbone. The 2021 vintage opens with aromas of wild strawberry, rose petals, pomegranate, and blood orange, layered with notes of alpine herbs, wet stone, and subtle spice. On the palate, it is taut, vertical, and finely chiseled, with precise tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, saline finish. This is a Gattinara of remarkable purity and tension, built to evolve gracefully over decades while offering early charm through its aromatic complexity.
Founded in 1906, Nervi is the oldest continuously operating winery in the Gattinara DOCG, located in northern Piedmont’s Alto Piemonte region. In 2018, legendary Barolo producer Roberto Conterno acquired the estate, bringing his uncompromising winemaking philosophy to its historic Nebbiolo vineyards. With holdings in premier crus such as Molsino and Valferana, Nervi Conterno crafts wines that combine the finesse and aromatic lift of northern Nebbiolo with the precision, structure, and cellar potential of the Langhe’s finest. The high-altitude vineyards, planted on ancient volcanic soils rich in minerals, yield wines of striking elegance, minerality, and longevity.
