The 2019 Pavie is a commanding yet refined experience—deep garnet-purple in hue with an aromatic tapestry of black cherry preserves, truffle, violets, graphite, and forest floor. Full-bodied and densely packed, it unfurls in the glass with layers of black fruits, allspice, and espresso, anchored by rock-solid, polished tannins and vibrant acidity. Critics showered it with praise—99 pts from Jeb Dunnuck and Wine Enthusiast, 98–99 from James Suckling and Lisa Perrotti‑Brown—hailing its power, restraint, and long-term grace. Expect majestic development from 2027 through 2055.
Château Pavie is among Saint‑Émilion’s most iconic estates, perched on the southwestern limestone plateau of the appellation. Elevated to Premier Grand Cru Classé A in 2012, it represents the pinnacle of Right Bank winemaking. The modern era, stewarded by Gérard Perse, introduced radical reforms—high-density plantings, rigorous pruning, and a state-of-the-art winery with gravity-fed vats. Currently, the blend reflects the terroir’s evolution: 50% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Franc, and 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, marking a deliberate shift toward Cabernet inclusion for added structure and finesse.
