The Barbera d’Alba Fiore 2021 is a vibrant and expressive red wine offering intense aromas of ripe red cherry, raspberry, and violet, with hints of sweet spice and earth. On the palate, it is juicy, fresh, and medium-bodied, with lively acidity, silky tannins, and a lingering fruit-forward finish. The wine showcases the natural brightness and drinkability of Barbera while retaining depth and finesse. An excellent companion to pasta with tomato sauces, grilled sausages, or mushroom risotto.
The small winery of San Giuliano rests its head on the historic hillside vineyard of the same name but subsumes a total of 7 hectares of vineyards spread throughout the Piemonte zones of Roero, Asti, Neive, and Barbaresco. Owner-enologist Giulio Pastura carries on his grandfather’s trade but has turned from bulk sales to high quality bottlings. Giulio and his wife, Mariella Stupino, do both the vineyard and the cellar work themselves, producing a varied line of reliable wines from the region’s native Nebbiolo, Moscato, Barbera, Dolcetto, Arneis, and Brachetto. Their lovely, accessible Barbarescos follow the tradition of aging in oak botti for 18 months.
