The 2018 Percarlo opens with a deep garnet‑ruby colour and an expressive bouquet of black cherry, wild strawberry, dusted cocoa, fine violet petals and subtle Mediterranean herb undertones. On the palate it is full‑bodied yet refined, offering a tight core of dark red and black fruits intertwined with polished tannins and bright acidity that give the wine elegance and drive. Mid‑palate nuance includes graphite, warm spice, earthy humus and a minerally, almost chalk‑y thread that underscores the site’s limestone‑rich soils. The finish is long, pure and vivid, with lingering echoes of tar, tobacco leaf, olive brine and plum‑pit bitters—a reminder of the wine’s depth and seriousness. While already approachable with some decanting, this wine clearly has the structure and balance to evolve gracefully over the next 10 – 15 years or more.
San Giusto a Rentennano, situated in the southern part of Tuscany’s Chianti Classico zone (near Gaiole), is a family‑owned estate renowned for its strict dedication to organic viticulture and boutique‑scale production. The vineyards are planted with 100 % Sangiovese — hand‑harvested, carefully sorted, and fermented in a blend of stainless steel and cement before ageing in large wood Hogsheads and tonneaux. The estate’s flagship bottling, Percarlo, represents the very best from their site selections, emphasizing precision, clarity and terroir rather than overt power.
