The 2001 Valeirano Riserva Magnum delivers a harmonious blend of power and finesse, its rich medium red hue hinting at its maturity. Antonio Galloni awarded it 93+ points, praising its rose-petal and marzipan aromatics—likened by Rivetti to the perfume of a Serralunga Barolo—alongside an almost Barolo-like density and plush texture. Its higher natural acidity lifts the high alcohol content, resulting in superb vinosity and long, noble tannins that linger with remarkable persistence.  Wine Spectator echoed this with 93 points, noting lovely berry, spice, and aged cedar aromas, full-bodied structure, and a need for further bottle development—best enjoyed post-2008.  Meanwhile, Wine Advocate granted 90 points, emphasizing its massive richness, penetrating aromas of truffle, mineral, vanilla, tar, and mint, as well as dense, chewy dark fruit and youthful tannins, suggesting its most austere profile among

Spinetta, La (Rivetti) Description

La Spinetta was founded in 1977 by Giuseppe “Pin” Rivetti and his wife Lidia, launching their reputation with single-vineyard Moscato d’Asti before expanding ambitiously into the prestigious world of Barbaresco. By 1997, they had introduced their first Riserva bottlings from celebrated crus—Gallina, Starderi, and Valeirano—each deeply expressive of its terroir despite unified cellar methods. The Valeirano Riserva is produced only in exceptional years, made from the best grapes of this southwest-exposed site in Treiso, characterized by clay-limestone marl soils and mature vines. Unlike the standard bottling, the Riserva is aged for at least 10 years before release, yielding a profoundly elegant and refined expression. Approximately 300 magnums are produced annually, underlining the wine’s rarity and the estate’s commitment to quality over quantity.
