The 2016 vintage of Bionzo is a rich and deeply expressive Barbera. Its color is a striking violet-red, introducing an aromatic bouquet of fresh plum, blueberry jam, and medlar. ([turn0search1], [turn0search5]) On the palate, it reveals impressive concentration and natural complexity—mineral notes, blackberry, and delicate chamomile emerge in harmony, all supported by supple texture and well-integrated tannins. ([turn0search2], [turn0search6], [turn0search15]) One reviewer from CellarTracker highlighted its “fine tannins [that] focus the flavours of the fruit,” with a “strong alcoholic and peppery finish.” ([turn0search7])
La Spinetta was founded in 1977 by Giuseppe “Pin” Rivetti and his wife Lidia in Castagnole delle Lanze. Renowned for its commitment to terroir expression, the estate is now helmed by the next generation—Carlo, Bruno, and Giorgio Rivetti—who uphold that tradition with modern precision. The “Bionzo” vineyard, located in Costigliole d’Asti, benefits from southern exposure on calcareous soils at around 250–300 m elevation. Planted with exceptionally old Barbera vines—over 60 years old—the vineyard is farmed sustainably and yields just 2,500 bottles per hectare, culminating in roughly 12,000 bottles produced annually.
