This 2008 vintage from the Pipparello vineyard in Montefalco (Umbria) is a blend of ~60% Sangiovese, ~25% Montepulciano and ~15% Sagrantino—fermented with long maceration (40–50 days) and aged one year in stainless steel plus two years in large oak barrels.  The wine reveals a deep garnet colour and opens with aromas of dried black cherry, cedar, exotic spice, black bramble and mineral earth. On the palate it offers medium‑to‑full body, firm yet silky tannins, vibrant acidity and a long finish of dark red and black fruit, licorice, tobacco leaf and savory underbrush—structured for the cellar but showing compelling layers already.

Bea, Paolo Description

Paolo Bea is a leading figure in Umbria’s Montefalco region, renowned for his organic and biodynamic approach and for crafting deeply expressive, age‑worthy wines with minimal intervention. Situated in an area traditionally known for Sagrantino, Bea also champions blends featuring Sangiovese and Montepulciano, producing wines with both natural intensity and terroir clarity. His hillside vineyard “Pipparello” is planted at roughly 1,300 ft above sea level in gravel‑ and clay‑rich soils, and the resulting wines benefit from extended maceration, large‑cask ageing and no fining or filtration, reflecting Bea’s commitment to authentic, site‑driven wines.
