The 2020 vintage presents a deep garnet core with a nuanced bouquet of black‑raspberry, cassis, violet petals, licorice, pencil shavings and subtle black truffle. On the palate the wine is medium‑ to full‑bodied with seamless texture: dark cherry and black‑plum fruits lead into fine‑grain tannins, vivid acidity and a thread of chalky minerality. Mid‑palate notes include graphite, tobacco‑leaf and crushed gravel, reflecting its Pauillac‑like structure despite being on the Right Bank. The finish is long, refined and saline‑tinged, carrying the wine’s signature tension and age‑worthiness. With less than a decade before peak drinking—and cellaring potential stretching into the 2040s and beyond—this is one of the most compelling Figeacs of recent years.
Château Figeac, located in the Saint‑Émilion appellation, is a unique Bordeaux estate distinguished by its gravel‑rich terroir and high‑proportion plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc alongside Merlot. Owned by the Manoncourt family, the estate has undertaken major vineyard, cellar and sorting‑programme upgrades in recent years to realise its full potential. Figeac’s style blends Left‑Bank structure with Right‑Bank finesse: rich, gravel‑driven power married with elegance and longevity.
