The 2008 Pichon Lalande is a beautifully balanced and expressive wine. It offers aromas of cassis, plum, violet, tobacco, and graphite, with hints of spice and cedar emerging over time. On the palate, it is medium to full‑bodied, with fine-grained tannins, refined structure, and a mineral-tinged finish that sustains long. The wine is drinking surprisingly well now, yet still has the backbone for further evolution over the next decade or more.
Château Pichon‑Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is one of Pauillac’s great Second Growths, its identity marked by elegance and finesse. The estate has long been known for favoring Merlot more than many of its Médoc peers, a trait that helps give its wines a sensuous texture without sacrificing structure. In 2007, the property was acquired by Louis Roederer, ushering in cellar modernization and renewed vineyard investments. The estate’s terroir—gravelly soils over deep clay—supports Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot plantings that express both power and aromatic nuance. Today, under new management structures, Lalande’s style continues to emphasize balance, aromatic complexity, and longevity.
