The 2007 Château L’Évangile is a graceful and fully expressive Pomerol from a cooler, earlier-drinking vintage that emphasizes finesse over power. Predominantly Merlot with a smaller percentage of Cabernet Franc, the wine spent around 18 months in French oak, about 70% new. Now beautifully mature, it opens with layered aromas of dried cherry, black plum, tobacco leaf, forest floor, graphite, and gentle hints of truffle and cocoa. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and silk-textured, with softened tannins, bright acidity, and a savory core of earthy red fruit and subtle spice. The 2007 vintage lacks the density of warmer years but compensates with aromatic lift, polish, and transparency—qualities that L’Évangile’s terroir delivers effortlessly. This is a wine at peak maturity, offering complexity and elegance in equal measure. Best enjoyed now through 2030, it pairs beautifully with roast duck, mushroom dishes, or aged cheeses.
Château L’Évangile is one of Pomerol’s most revered estates, renowned for producing wines of profound elegance, depth, and longevity. Situated on the prestigious Pomerol plateau between Château Pétrus and Cheval Blanc, L’Évangile possesses an exceptional terroir of deep gravel and clay soils that are ideally suited to Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The château has been owned by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) since 1990, a period marked by extensive replanting, modernization of the cellar, and a renewed emphasis on precision and terroir expression. Under their stewardship, L’Évangile has evolved into a wine of both opulence and restraint—retaining its traditional richness while gaining greater finesse and purity. The estate’s low yields, meticulous vineyard management, and parcel-by-parcel vinification contribute to the consistent quality and refinement that place L’Évangile among the elite of Bordeaux’s Right Bank.
