The 2011 Château L’Évangile is a classically styled Pomerol that reflects both the château’s pedigree and the cooler conditions of the vintage. The blend is composed of approximately 94% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc, vinified in temperature-controlled vats and aged for about 18 months in 70% new French oak. The wine opens with refined aromatics of red plum, dried cherry, pencil shavings, tobacco, cedar, and hints of violet and graphite. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and elegantly structured, with fine-grained tannins, fresh acidity, and a savory, mineral-driven finish. The 2011 vintage doesn’t possess the density of warmer years but offers excellent transparency and classical proportions. Now entering its optimal drinking window, the wine shows balance, aromatic complexity, and restraint. It’s a beautifully mature L’Évangile, perfect for pairing with roast lamb, duck breast, or truffle risotto, and will continue to evolve gracefully through the late 2020s.
Château L’Évangile is one of Pomerol’s most revered estates, renowned for producing wines of profound elegance, depth, and longevity. Situated on the prestigious Pomerol plateau between Château Pétrus and Cheval Blanc, L’Évangile possesses an exceptional terroir of deep gravel and clay soils that are ideally suited to Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The château has been owned by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) since 1990, a period marked by extensive replanting, modernization of the cellar, and a renewed emphasis on precision and terroir expression. Under their stewardship, L’Évangile has evolved into a wine of both opulence and restraint—retaining its traditional richness while gaining greater finesse and purity. The estate’s low yields, meticulous vineyard management, and parcel-by-parcel vinification contribute to the consistent quality and refinement that place L’Évangile among the elite of Bordeaux’s Right Bank.
