The 2019 Collemattoni Brunello di Montalcino is a beautifully poised and classically structured Sangiovese, showing the refinement and freshness that define this highly regarded vintage. Fermented with native yeasts and aged for 30 months in large Slavonian oak, the wine opens with a vivid bouquet of red cherry, rose petal, dried thyme, orange peel, and hints of tobacco and crushed stone. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with finely woven tannins, bright acidity, and a long, mineral finish. The 2019 vintage brings a harmonious balance of ripeness and tension, and Collemattoni captures it with precision—this is a Brunello that offers both approachability in youth and the structure for graceful aging over 12–20 years. It pairs beautifully with traditional Tuscan fare like pappardelle al cinghiale, grilled lamb, or aged pecorino, and stands as an excellent representation of artisanal, terroir-focused Montalcino winemaking.
Collemattoni is a rising star in Montalcino, known for producing soulful, terroir-driven expressions of Sangiovese that combine traditional sensibilities with thoughtful precision. The estate is located just south of Montalcino in the Sant’Angelo in Colle area, an elevated zone characterized by galestro and limestone soils and strong diurnal shifts—conditions that help deliver aromatic complexity and structure to the wines. Founded in 1988 by Marcello Bucci’s family, Collemattoni is today under Marcello’s passionate direction, and the estate is farmed organically with full certification since 2016. Winemaking is traditional yet refined: spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, long maceration, and aging in large Slavonian oak casks. Collemattoni’s Brunellos stand out for their vibrancy, balance, and ability to express the subtleties of the vintage and site without excess oak or extraction.
