Christopher Deas, Italian Wine Merchants: "This is another 2018 Bourgogne Rouge that is absolutely delicious, and in our opinion drinks more like a Premier Cru. It is instead a near perfect expression of a generic appellation wine delivering immediate enjoyment with a touch of sophistication from the noble varietal - sans the crazy expensive 2018 price tag. It is also another example of where the critics got it wrong and that Burgundy is simply rated on a different scale. This is an overachieving appellation wine that has been consistently referenced by critics as "absolutely delicious"even though the scores may not capture these accurate and positive comments. And what you should know here is that the grapes are sourced from a small one- hectare parcel of superior vineyards at 400 meters altitude where the bedrock is almost visible at surface level; the soils are brown and very chalky. It should also be noted that this overachieving Bourgogne Rouge is comprised of old vines averaging

Domaine Denis Mortet Description

Not too long ago, Domaine Denis Mortet was the hot rising star of Burgundy thanks in part to the meticulous and creative Denis Mortet. The young winemaker, who took over the estate for his father Charles in 1991, was fortunate to spend time with Lalou Bize-Leroy and befriend the legendary Henri Jayer; you might say the winemaking school of thought and magic touch rubbed off on the young disciple. With the mentoring and lifelong friendships to Burgundy's King and Queen, the wines quickly achieved cult-like status until his untimely death in 2006. However, there is wine running in the veins of the Mortet family, and Denis's son Arnaud has picked up where his father left off, delivering the same attention to detail in the vineyards but with a more classic and subtle approach in the cellar. The wines continue to draw comparisons to Leroy and Henri Jayer for the detailed vineyard management and the end results of texture, mouthfeel, and sensuality.
