The 2019 Castelgiocondo Brunello di Montalcino is a poised, expressive, and finely structured Brunello, reflecting both the estate’s meticulous viticulture and the excellence of the 2019 vintage—widely regarded as one of the greatest of the decade. A long, balanced growing season with ideal diurnal variation allowed for slow, even ripening of the Sangiovese, yielding wines of brightness, concentration, and refined tannic architecture. In the glass, the wine reveals a deep ruby hue and a layered aromatic profile of wild cherry, red currant, dried rose, leather, balsamic herbs, and sweet spice, underpinned by subtle mineral and earthy tones. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, with vibrant acidity, fine-grained tannins, and a long, focused finish that speaks to both the altitude of the vineyards and the restrained elegance of the vintage. There is power here, but it is sculpted—never heavy—delivering energy and precision rather than sheer opulence.
Marchesi Frescobaldi is one of Italy’s most historic and influential wine dynasties, with over 700 years of viticultural heritage and deep roots in Tuscany’s most important appellations. The Castelgiocondo estate, located on the southwestern slopes of Montalcino, has been under Frescobaldi ownership since the early 1980s and is considered one of the appellation’s most iconic properties.
