The 2021 La Turque opens with intense aromas of red and black cherry, violet, spicy clove, and smoky meat, all lifted by whispers of violet and mineral earth. On the palate, it is lush but taut—silky tannins and vibrant acidity frame layers of dark fruit, pepper, game, and licorice, with a long, lingering finish that combines power with sophistication. Already approachable with decanting, it carries the depth and structure for decades of graceful evolution.
Guigal is one of the most storied names in the Northern Rhône, rooted inAmpuis and revered for elevating Côte-Rôtie to global prominence. Their “La La” trio—La Mouline, La Turque, and La Landonne—embodies different terroir expressions, and La Turque is planted on steep terraces of granite and schist in the Côte Brune sector. Guigal’s approach blends tradition with rigorous precision: whole-cluster inclusion when appropriate, long macerations, and extended maturation (often ~42 months) in new oak to build backbone while preserving aromatic purity. La Turque tends to strike a balance between perfume and structure, and through the years it has become a benchmark for elegance and tension in the Rhône.
