The 2020 Gattinara is made from 100% Nebbiolo, sourced from the estate’s high-altitude vineyards, including parcels in the prestigious Molsino and Valferana crus. The nose reveals wild strawberry, red cherry, rose petals, and blood orange zest, underscored by hints of licorice, crushed rock, and fresh herbs. On the palate, it offers vibrant acidity, fine-grained tannins, and crystalline precision, with flavors of pomegranate, red currant, and subtle mineral salinity. The volcanic soils add a signature stony edge, while the finish is long, elegant, and savory. The 2020 vintage, marked by optimal ripening and balanced conditions, gives a wine that is approachable in youth but structured for 15–20 years of aging. In magnum format, its evolution will be even slower and more graceful.
Established in 1906, Nervi holds the distinction of being the oldest winery in the Gattinara appellation of Alto Piemonte. This mountainous northern Piedmont zone is famed for its high-altitude Nebbiolo vineyards, rooted in unique volcanic porphyry soils that impart a distinct minerality and finesse. In 2018, the estate was acquired by Roberto Conterno of Giacomo Conterno, one of Barolo’s most celebrated names. His arrival brought a meticulous, uncompromising approach to viticulture and winemaking — from low yields and rigorous vineyard selection to extended aging and precise cellar work. Today, Nervi-Conterno is regarded as a benchmark for the refined, age-worthy Nebbiolo of Alto Piemonte, seamlessly blending over a century of tradition with the precision and elegance for which Conterno is renowned.
