Sourced from the historic Ginestra site of Pajana, this very approachable Seghesio Barolo offers a nice red color with bits of orange tinge on the rim, a cue to its nose of bright red fruit earth and cherry. The wine continually changes; as you drink this elegant, weightless Barolo, it opens up with aromas of mushroom, red cherries and forest floor, and on the palate, it offers black fruits, spice, and full ripe tannins through its well-balanced and harmonious finish. Though approachable now with decanting, the ripe, bold '07 Renzo Seghesio Barolo Pajana is a wine that will age twenty years, and priced at $50, it's one of the great values in Barolo.

Renzo Seghesio Description

For more than a century, Seghesio has been crafting its wines in famed Monforte d'Alba; only the estate's tiny production numbers have kept it a relative secret. Located in Monforte d'Alba, Renzo Seghesio's proudest vineyard sits in the historic Ginestra site of Pajana. Domenico Clerico made Pajana famous, but here's a little known fact: this iconic Barolo maker actually sourced some grapes from Seghesio. Renzo Seghesio may share the name of (and kinship with) Piemonte's Fratelli Seghesio and Sonoma's Seghesio, but don't mistake this small, seriously artisanal, family-owned-and-operated estate with either of these winemakers. Though Renzo Seghesio may be new to you, it's a long established, artisanal winemaker, and IWM was delighted to be the first US retailer to offer Seghesio's Barolo, as well as the estate's other fine wines.
