The 2019 Alter Ego de Palmer is plush and aromatic, offering an enchanting nose of black cherry, crushed violets, and graphite. On the palate, it delivers layers of ripe plum, cassis, and cocoa, accented by hints of cedar and warm spices. Silky tannins and well-integrated acidity provide balance and length, making this a wine that is both generous and refined. While approachable in its youth, the 2019 also has the structure to develop gracefully over the next 10–15 years. A beautifully crafted Margaux that captures the soul of Palmer in a more accessible and seductive style.
Château Palmer, located in the heart of Margaux, is one of Bordeaux’s most revered estates, known for its elegance, complexity, and aging potential. While classified as a Third Growth in the 1855 Classification, Palmer is often regarded among the region’s elite, rivaling First Growths in prestige and quality. Alter Ego de Palmer, introduced in 1998, is not a traditional second wine, but rather a stylistic counterpart made from separate plots and crafted to highlight a more immediate, fruit-forward expression of the château’s terroir. The blend typically features a higher proportion of Merlot than the Grand Vin, offering a rounder, softer structure while maintaining Margaux’s hallmark perfume and finesse. Under the stewardship of Thomas Duroux and committed to biodynamic farming, Palmer has become a leader in sustainable viticulture and precise, expressive winemaking.
