The 2016 vintage reveals a deep garnet‑ruby colour and a beautifully defined aromatics profile: black‑berry compote, licorice root, violet petals and a fine saline/iron thread emerge from the glass. On the palate, it is medium to full‑bodied yet remarkably poised—dark plum and black cherry fruits are framed by refined tannins and a clear mineral spine that drives the mid‑palate. Vivid acidity adds lift and freshness, ensuring the richness of fruit never turns heavy; mid‑palate notes include cedar, warm spice and crushed stone, giving depth and nuance. The finish is long and precise, with lingering echoes of wild herbs, licorice and red/black fruit persisting in the mineral‑rich tail. This is a standout of its vintage from Millery: built for ageing but showing early promise with decanting, offering reward both now and for cellars.
Château de Millery is a tiny, remarkable estate in the heart of the Saint‑Émilion Grand Cru zone, planted on a clay‑limestone plateau and covering less than a hectare—making it as rare as it is expressive. Under the ownership of the Manoncourt family (known for their stewardship of Château Figeac), the vineyard receives the same obsessive care and low‑yield philosophy as their flagship estate—resulting in wines of exceptional refinement. Cultivated sustainably, the vines benefit from minimal intervention, meticulous selection and a focus on terroir expression over volume. The result: wines that are both rare and capable of surprising depth given their size.
