The 2021 La Mouline is ruby-tinged with vibrant brightness; the nose greets you with red cherry, blackberry, violet, rose petal, and subtle florals. It shows expressive power yet retains elegance: the palate is supple but layered, with fine tannins, lively acidity, and silky texture weaving through savory spice, smoke, and mineral undertones. Though beginning to drink, it still carries youthful energy and structure destined to evolve beautifully over the next decade and beyond.
Guigal is a cornerstone of Northern Rhône, hailing from Ampuis, with a legacy built on elevating Côte-Rôtie to world-class stature. Among its famed “La La” lineup, La Mouline sits in the Côte Blonde, planted on steep terraces of gneiss, granite, and limestone soils. The vineyard is planted to ~89% Syrah and ~11% Viognier, which are co-fermented to lend aromatic lift and silkiness. Guigal ages La Mouline in 100% new French oak for ~42 months, applying a restrained, elegant oak program that supports rather than dominates the fruit. Their philosophy with this cuvée is one of harmony and finesse — extracting intensity without losing purity, precision, or aromatic transparency. Across vintages, La Mouline is celebrated for its perfume, silky texture, and aging promise. The estate’s reputation for consistency, rigor, and terroir-driven style is embodied in every release.
