The 2019 Le Secret des Sabon is a modern legend—a wine of opulence, precision, and extraordinary depth. A predominantly Grenache field blend (about 95%) matured in tronconique wooden barrels, it presents a compelling nose of blackberries, peppery herbs, graphite, crushed violets, and mineral-lit freshness. On the palate, it strikes an uncanny balance between musculature and grace: ripe, full-bodied fruit framed by refined, building tannins and a pure, energetic finish. Critics are unanimous—100 points from Jeb Dunnuck, 98 from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, and 96–96+ from Vinous, Wine Spectator, and Decanter—calling it rich yet elegant, magical, and capable of evolving for decades. Drinking window is projected from roughly 2024 through 2040 or beyond, with the magnum format offering amplified freshness, longevity, and presence.
Domaine Roger Sabon is a revered name in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where traditional winemaking meets terroir authenticity. Nestled in sandy, stony soils of lieu-dits like Les Brusquières and Cabrières, the estate meticulously cultivates century-old Grenache vines—sometimes yielding as little as 10 hl/ha. Whole-cluster fermentation in concrete or tronconique vats, combined with aging in neutral barrels, retains the purity and depth of the fruit. Le Secret des Sabon began as a boutique field blend from the oldest vines and has since evolved into one of the appellation’s most coveted expressions, balancing power with elegance and reserved cellaring power.
