Gift your loved ones their Birth Year—guaranteed quality and provenance!

Armagnac stands quietly among the world’s great spirits—often overshadowed by the marketing power of Scotch, Rye, Bourbon, Cognac, and even Sake—yet in terms of authenticity, depth, and sheer value, it may be the most remarkable of them all. Distilled primarily in Gascony using traditional column stills and often from a single estate, Armagnac preserves raw material character in a way few spirits do. What makes it truly extraordinary, however, is access to extremely old vintages—often well over 100 years—released directly from the producer’s own cellars at prices that remain shockingly reasonable when compared to century-old Scotch or Cognac. These are not blends designed for uniformity, but living liquid archives shaped by time, evaporation, and cask. Each bottle is a singular historical document, carrying the stamp of its harvest year, its barrels, and its custodians. In a world increasingly driven by speculation and branding, Armagnac remains one of the last true refuges of old-world spirit value.

Among the undisputed leaders of this tradition stands Château de Laubade, one of the great benchmark estates of Bas-Armagnac. The château itself dates to the 19th century, but its modern identity was shaped when the Lesgourgues family acquired the property in 1974 and committed fully to estate-grown, estate-distilled, and estate-aged Armagnac—an absolute rarity. Today, all production comes from their own vineyards, planted primarily to Ugni Blanc, Baco, Folle Blanche, and Colombard, and distilled on site using traditional continuous column stills. Aging takes place exclusively in Gascon oak, much of it crafted from trees grown on the estate itself. This total control from vine to bottle gives Laubade extraordinary consistency, transparency, and aging potential, while preserving the powerful, earthy elegance that defines Bas-Armagnac at its best.

On the global market, Château de Laubade occupies a unique position: both widely respected by collectors and deeply trusted by sommeliers and fine spirits merchants. Unlike many historic Armagnac houses that have disappeared or sold off old stocks long ago, Laubade has preserved deep libraries of vintage casks across multiple generations. As a result, the estate can still release Armagnacs from the early 20th century—and even the late 1800s—directly from its own cellars. Our current offer reaches back to 1898, placing these bottles among the oldest continually estate-held spirits available anywhere in the world today. Despite their rarity, these Armagnacs remain accessible when measured against other ultra-aged spirits, making them not just collector pieces, but profoundly drinkable expressions of time itself.

Among our absolute favorites from Château de Laubade, each vintage tells a distinct sensory story. Intemporel No. 5 is a masterful multi-vintage composition, offering seamless layers of dried fig, toasted almond, cigar wrapper, dark caramel, and baking spices, with satiny texture and a nearly endless finish. The legendary 1910 is hauntingly complex, showing antique mahogany, black tea, bitter cocoa, walnut oil, leather, and oxidative rancio of almost Port-like depth, carrying astonishing vitality for its age. The 1960 is regal and poised, with honeyed orange peel, vanilla pod, polished oak, and warm spice, gaining lift and aromatic clarity on the finish. The 1978 shows richer, darker tones of dried plum, coffee bean, toffee, and tobacco leaf, with muscular structure and long persistence. The 1980 is beautifully balanced, offering roasted nuts, orange confit, milk chocolate, and sweet spice with a refined, polished mouthfeel. The 1984 leans more lifted and aromatic, showing dried apricot, floral honey, cinnamon, and subtle char. Finally, the 2005 is vibrant and energetic, packed with fresh orchard fruit, vanilla cream, light oak, and bright spice, demonstrating just how beautifully Laubade’s Armagnacs evolve from youthful precision toward profound maturity. Together, these bottles form a breathtaking cross-section of more than a century of distillation, aging, and living history.
