Poderi Aldo Conterno is a historic estate in Monforte d’Alba, founded in 1969 by Aldo Conterno after parting ways with his family's iconic winery, Giacomo Conterno. Aldo sought to bridge traditional Barolo with modern elegance, producing wines that combine structure and power with approachability. The estate focuses on the Bussia cru—one of Barolo’s most revered vineyards—farming three distinct parcels: Cicala, Colonnello, and Romirasco, each bottled separately in top vintages.

The estate practices sustainable farming with minimal chemical intervention and meticulous vineyard management. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel with controlled macerations (around 20–30 days for Barolo), after which the wines age in large Slavonian oak botti for 24–32 months depending on the wine. Unlike traditionalists who favor very long macerations, Aldo Conterno pioneered a more measured extraction that respects fruit purity while retaining Nebbiolo’s signature structure.

Today, the estate is run by Aldo’s sons—Franco, Stefano, and Giacomo—who continue the vision of producing expressive, terroir-driven wines with balance and age-worthiness. The style is polished but never glossy—firmly rooted in Barolo’s soul, yet more accessible in youth than the most austere traditionalists.

Approximately 15 years ago, Poderi Aldo Conterno made a decisive shift—drastically reducing production to focus exclusively on concentration, precision, and uncompromising quality. This intentional reduction has elevated the prestige and rarity of their top cru Baroli, making both their vintage releases and new offerings increasingly scarce and collectible.

We are fortunate to have only a handful of bottles available from the 2021 cru releases, and we encourage you to place your requests promptly. At the same time, our library holdings of older vintages are dwindling, as global demand continues to outpace supply—making these wines not only a source of immense drinking pleasure but also a compelling investment opportunity.
